WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
Insurance card
List of current medications
If taking eye drops, bring the box or bottle
Current glasses or contact lens box (if new prescription needed)
DILATION
Often your pupils must be dilated during an eye exam. Dilation is necessary for a thorough evaluation of your eyes. Dilation may cause your vision to become blurry and lights will appear brighter than usual. We suggest you bring sunglasses to your appointment. If you are concerned about driving while dilated, please bring someone with you to drive you home.
REFRACTION
What is a refraction? It is the part of the eye exam where we check the patient’s glasses prescription. Most often it is best performed prior to any other part of the examination, as intraocular pressure testing and dilation can alter the results and lead to an erroneous glasses prescription. For this reason, make sure to let the doctor or technician know at the beginning of your examination whether you would like a refraction. This service is usually not covered by your insurance and is an additional charge.
